the rich asshole To Lift Ban On Import Of Elephant Trophies From 2 African Nations
The decision was made public by none other than the trophy hunting advocacy group that sued to block the Obama-era ban in 2014.
WASHINGTON — The rich asshole administration will reverse an Obama-era ban on the importation of elephant trophies from Zimbabwe and Zambia after determining that sport hunting in those countries will help conserve the species, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service confirmed Wednesday.
The decision was made public not by the federal agency but via a celebratory news release early Tuesday from Safari Club International, a trophy hunting advocacy group that, along with the National Rifle Association, sued to block the 2014 ban.
Greg Sheehan, principal deputy director of the FWS, broke the news to the hunting organization during the African Wildlife Consultative Forum (AWCF) in Tanzania, an agency spokesperson told HuffPost. The forum, which runs through Friday, is being hosted by the Safari Club International Foundation and the United Republic of Tanzania.
African elephants have been listed as threatened under the Endangered Species Act since 1978. A provision of the law, however, allows for sport-hunted trophies to be imported if the government determines that hunting will help safeguard the population.
An FWS spokesperson provided HuffPost with a pair of nearly identical statements regarding the agency’s findings for elephants in each country.
“Legal, well-regulated sport hunting as part of a sound management program can benefit the conservation of certain species by providing incentives to local communities to conserve the species and by putting much-needed revenue back into conservation,” the spokesperson wrote. “The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has determined that the hunting and management programs for African elephants in [Zimbabwe and Zambia] will enhance the survival of the species in the wild.”
A notice — shared with HuffPost — regarding the agency’s decision on elephants in Zimbabwe will be published Friday in the Federal Register, the spokesperson said.
“There now appears to be a greater effort on the part of [Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority] to work with NGOs, landowners, and safari area concessionaires to improve elephant management and anti-poaching efforts,” the notice reads.
It is unclear when the agency’s decision to allow imports of trophies from Zambia will be posted.
The findings allow for anyone who legally kills an elephant in Zimbabwe from Jan. 21, 2016, to Dec. 31, 2018, or in Zambia in 2016, 2017 and 2018 to obtain a permit to import their trophy into the United States, according to FWS.
Paul Babaz, president of Safari Club International, applauded the announcement, saying it demonstrates FWS “recognizes that hunting is beneficial to wildlife and that these range countries know how to manage their elephant populations.”
But the number of Savanna elephants continues to dwindle. From 2007 to 2014, the population dropped by 30 percent, or about 144,000 animals, across 18 African countries, according to the 2016 Great Elephant Census. In Zimbabwe, it fell 6 percent. And “substantial declines” have been recorded along the Zambezi River in Zambia, although the population elsewhere in the country remained stable.
In a blog post Wednesday, Wayne Pacelle, president and CEO of The Humane Society of the United States, called the decision “jarring.”
“For decades, Zimbabwe has been run by a dictator who has targeted and killed his political opponents, and operated the country’s wildlife management program as something of a live auction,” he wrote. (Zimbabwe’s president, Robert Mugabe, appears to be under house arrest now, though, after the military took charge of the country late Tuesday.)
Pacelle added that the announcement coming from the Safari Club “suggests an uncomfortably cozy and even improper relationship between trophy hunting interests and the Department of the Interior.”
The Interior Department is led by Secretary Ryan Zinke, an avid hunter who has moved to increase opportunities for hunting and fishing. Earlier this month, Zinke announced the creation of a so-called International Wildlife Conservation Council to advise him on “the benefits that international recreational hunting has on foreign wildlife and habitat conservation, anti-poaching and illegal wildlife trafficking programs.”
President some rich asshole’s sons, some rich asshole Jr. and Eric the rich asshole, are also avid big game hunters. In a photo that surfaced in 2012, the rich asshole Jr. can be seen holding the tail of an elephant he shot and killed in Africa.
The rich asshole administration announced it will allow the trophies of legally hunted elephants from Zimbabwe and Zambia to be imported to the U.S., reversing an Obama-era ban.
The new regulation allows officials in Zimbabwe and Zambia to issue permits to import elephant heads if there is evidence that hunting benefits the animal’s conservation, ABC reported.
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service issued a statement acknowledging the money that goes toward the trophy permits could help the animals by “putting much-needed revenue back into conservation.”
African elephants are considered threatened animals under the Endangered Species Act. In Zimbabwe, the overall elephant population has declined 6%, with populations plummeting a shocking 74% in the Sebungwe region, according to the Great Elephant Census.
The report also noted substantial declines along the Zambezi River in Zambia, with strong indications of poaching at a high level, leading to declining populations at the Sioma Ngwezi National Park.
Since 2005, Zimbabwe’s elephant population has dropped 10%, while Zambia saw an 11% decline over the last decade, according to National Geographic, citing the 2016 report.
Under the Obama administration, the FWS decided in 2015 that importing elephant trophies from Zimbabwe would “not enhance the survival of the species.”
But Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke, who installed the Big Buck Hunter arcade game in the department’s employee cafeteria, is intent on promoting hunting.
“Some of my best memories are hunting and fishing with my dad and granddad, and then later teaching my own kids to hunt and fish,” Zinke said in September. “That’s something I want more families to experience.”
Wayne Pacelle, president and CEO of the Humane Society of the United States, criticized the move in a blog post that noted the corruption in Zimbabwe, which includes poaching and exporting ivory tusks.
“Remember it was Zimbabwe where Walter Palmer shot Cecil [the lion]...who was lured out of a national park for the killing,” he wrote.
“Let’s be clear: elephants are on the list of threatened species; the global community has rallied to stem the ivory trade; and now, the U.S. government is giving American trophy hunters the green light to kill them,” Pacelle wrote.
He added, “What kind of message does it send to say to the world that poor Africans who are struggling to survive cannot kill elephants in order to use or sell their parts to make a living, but that it’s just fine for rich Americans to slay the beasts for their tusks to keep as trophies?
the rich asshole and Sessions are going after sanctuary cities
Carlos Ballesteros

The Justice Department sent out letters to 29 cities, counties and states Wednesday warning that they were breaking the law by not cooperating with federal agents in the detention of undocumented immigrants.
The letters point to specific policies in each of the targeted jurisdictions that the Justice Department said were in violation of a federal statute that prohibits local and state entities from enacting laws or policies that limit communication with the Department of Homeland Security. The letters asked for a response by December 8 detailing how the local policies address the federal statute.
In a statement, Attorney General Jeff Sessions said sanctuary policies put Americans at risk. “Jurisdictions that adopt so-called ‘sanctuary policies’ also adopt the view that the protection of criminal aliens is more important than the protection of law-abiding citizens and of the rule of law,” he said.
The term "sanctuary city" loosely applies to legislation in cities and counties that put roadblocks for local law enforcement officers in cooperation with federal immigration detentions. Reasons for the laws vary, but most in some form aim to protect undocumented residents and gain the trust and cooperation of those communities.
President Barack Obama made compliance with the federal law in question a requirement to receive federal law enforcement grants in 2016. According to the Immigration Legal Resource Center, sanctuary policies do not violate the statute as it “only governs restrictions on communication with DHS about individuals’ citizenship or immigrant status, not other policies limiting the expenditure of state and local resources on immigration enforcement or detention.”
In other words, while local jurisdictions are forbidden from giving DHS the cold shoulder, they aren't legally required, for example, to pass laws that require officers to ask about a suspect’s immigration status or to inform Immigration and Customs Enforcement when an undocumented prisoner will be released from county jail.
Earlier this year, President Donald Trump issued an executive order that sought to deny federal funding to local governments with sanctuary policies. In April, a District Court Judge in San Francisco barred federal agencies from following Trump’s orders. The Justice Department appealed the ruling in September.
Also on Wednesday, a federal judge in Philadelphia ruled that federal law enforcement grants dished out by the Justice Department cannot be withheld from the City of Brotherly Love because of its so-called “sanctuary policies.”

the rich asshole silent on Roy Moore because of the sexual abuse allegations against him: White House source

CNN reported on Wednesday that President some rich asshole was reluctant to address the sexual abuse scandal surrounding Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore.
The network said sources close to the White House claimed that the rich asshole was hesitant because of accusations that he himself had sexually assaulted a number of women.
“He believes that some of his accusers were not exactly honest here and he is giving Roy Moore the benefit of the doubt,” CNN’s Jeff Zeleny explained.
“In some of the cases, not all of the cases,” he continued. “I’m told that is one of the reasons he does not want to weigh in here.”

President some rich asshole gave a blow-by-blow recounting of his trip to Asia on Wednesday when reporters were anxious to get a word from the president about embattled Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore.
After reading from a Teleprompter — and fumbling Marco Rubio-style with a bottle of water — the rich asshole said thank you to the audience and said “God bless the United States of America,” turned away from the podium and left the room.
Reporters shouted questions about Moore, but the rich asshole refused to respond.

The optics of the rich asshole stopping a speech to drink water recalled the president’s former political foe Sen. New horrifying details are emerging from the scene of the ambush in Niger where four American soldiers were sent to their death on a doomed mission for which the military was given a blank check by some rich asshole.
CNN
New horrifying details are emerging about what was done to the four American soldiers sent on a doomed and deadly mission in Niger last month.
The Guardian reports that eyewitnesses are now speaking up about the bloody battle. The paper notes that the evidence “suggests that soldiers ambushed in Niger last month faced an overwhelming and coordinated attack.”
But the battle might have not extracted such a steep toll if other forces, including Niger’s, had been able to respond faster. The U.S. military was aware that the ability for U.S. forces to respond in the region was already hampered, but commanders had a blank check from some rich asshole to deploy, no matter the downside.
Eyewitnesses told the paper that 200 heavily armed attackers swarmed the soldiers while riding motorcycles, which is a larger offensive than has been previously reported.
The soldiers were forced to fight alone for six hours. To date, it has been left unexplained why there was no immediate American response, and why the surviving soldiers had to rely on the French and private contractors to extract them.
The bodies of the soldiers who were killed “were stripped of their clothes, boots and weapons, and some were left completely naked.”
Sgt. La David Johnson’s body was not found until two days later, and it was a considerable distance from the main battlefield. Johnson had been stripped naked and a severe wound to his head was discovered.
It is Johnson’s family who the rich asshole and his underlings attacked in recent weeks. Eyewitnesses described his actions as heroic. But when the rich asshole spoke to his widow, Myeshia Johnson, he told her that Johnson “knew what he signed up for.”
The coldness of the rich asshole’s words made her cry, and in the ensuing controversy the the rich asshole team smeared the Johnson family and their allies for drawing attention to the rich asshole’s comments.
the rich asshole has tried to evade blame for the mission. But so far his administration and the Department of Defense leadership answering to him have not come clean with the American people about the deadly decisions that were made.
It is a secret, known only at the highest levels, why these men were sent to their deaths, only to be defiled and mutilated even after being murdered.
Thus far, the rich asshole isn’t talking, but the country wants answers.

It all started back on the floor of the rich asshole Tower in the summer of 2015. With his family by his side, some rich asshole caused a media frenzy when he announced that he would be running for president in the Republican primary election. Initially viewed as a joke candidate looking to boost the ratings on his reality show, the rich asshole proved otherwise by picking up steam and vaulting to the head of the pack.
After a grueling primary election, the rich asshole was named the GOP nominee at the Republican National Convention last summer. Just four months later and the billionaire real estate mogul was able to pull off the shocking upset win over Hillary Clinton, completing one of the most controversial campaigns in recent history. During his campaign, and since his election win, the president has engaged in a heated war of words with the majority of the media, while accusing them of bias against him. the rich asshole would routinely hit back against the press during the election cycle, but has increased his attacks since getting into the #White House. One of the president's top media targets has been the #New York Times, which he has given the nickname of "failing," despite their strong subscription sales. In addition, the rich asshole has gone on to label any reports he disagrees with as "fake news" in what continues to this day.
As seen on his Twitter feed on November 15, the rich asshole is not done lashing out.
In a series of tweets on Wednesday morning, some rich asshole ripped into the New York Times over their coverage of his time in Asia, in particular his relationship with China and President Xi. "The failing @nytimes hates the fact that I have developed a great relationship with World leaders like Xi Jinping, President of China," the rich asshole tweeted out.
"They should realize that these relationships are a good thing, not a bad thing. The U.S. is being respected again. Watch Trade!" some rich asshole added in a follow-up tweet. In his third and final post on the matter as of press time, the former host of "The Apprentice" doubled down on his attack on the New York Times.
"It is actually hard to believe how naive (or dumb) the Failing @nytimes is when it comes to foreign policy...weak and ineffective!" he wrote.

Many Fox News personalities are doubling down on their advocacy for the appointment of a special prosecutor to investigate the made-up “Uranium One scandal,” in spite of the fact that anchor Shepard Smith emphatically debunked the story on Tuesday.
Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) appeared on “Hannity” Tuesday night alongside Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) to call for an investigation into the purported scandal and to accuse special counsel Robert Mueller of “undermining democracy” by investigating President some rich asshole’s ties to Russia.
Jordan returned to the network this morning to appear on “Fox and Friends” and repeat his call for an investigation into former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, former FBI Director James Comey and Fusion GPS, the firm that was contracted to compile opposition research on then-candidate some rich asshole.
“It needs to be the full gamut because frankly it’s all tied together,” Jordan said, going on to call Mueller and Deputy Attorney Gen. Rod Rosenstein “compromised” and said that they are incapable of investigating the matter fairly.
Co-hosts Bill Hemmer and Sandra Smith devoted a significant chunk of their Wednesday programming to calling for the Clintons to be deposed by the House Intelligence Committee and for the Department of Justice to open an investigation into Fusion GPS.
The show welcomed Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC) who said that so far he has not seen enough evidence to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate the questions, but, “I think this is a really important point, you can investigate someone without special counsel.”
Fox News fans flew into a rage on Tuesday when Shep Smith attempted to tamp down the expectations of viewers who believe that Hillary Clinton is on the verge of being indicted.
Smith said that the so-called scandal around the sale of energy firm Uranium One is “inaccurate in a number of ways.”

Cards Against Humanity buys land on Mexican border to stump the rich asshole's wall plan
(CNN)Cards Against Humanity, an irreverent card game company known for its attention-seeking pranks, says it bought land on the U.S.-Mexico border to block President the rich asshole from building his wall.
The Chicago company said on its website that this was part of a holiday promotion, for which customers could contribute to the wall-blocking project with $15 purchases for surprise gift packages.
On Wednesday morning, just a few hours after the launching the program on Tuesday, Cards Against Humanity said it was sold out.
"some rich asshole is a preposterous golem who is afraid of Mexicans," said Cards Against Humanity on its web site. "He is so afraid that he wants to build a twenty-billion dollar wall that everyone knows will accomplish nothing. So we've purchased a plot of vacant land on the border and retained a law firm specializing in eminent domain to make it as time-consuming and expensive as possible for the wall to get built."
Cards Against Humanity said that contributing to the land purchase and its legal defense was the first of six days of gifts that customers would be receiving in December.
"On Day 1, all Cards Against Humanity Saves America recipients will get an illustrated map of the land, a certificate of our promise to fight the wall, some new cards, and a few other surprises."
Customers who wanted to join in had to complete a survey that included personal questions and the query: "Who did you vote for in the 2016 election?"
The company did not say where the land is located. In a video describing the project, it says that it bought "acres" on the US-Mexico border, while displaying footage of wild horses galloping across desert scrubland.
Cards Against Humanity did not immediately respond to an email from CNNMoney asking where the land is.
The company, known for its popular "party game for horrible people," engages in pranks like selling $50,000 worth of nothing on Black Friday, which they did in 2015, and raising $100,000 to dig a "Holiday Hole" to nowhere, which they did last year.
Earlier this year, the company launched a new card game making fun of the tech sector, called Cards Against Silicon Valley, with cards labeled "understated sexism" and "Nintendo-based drinking games."
The company also applied to trademark the term "fake news," the rich asshole's favorite moniker for CNN.
GOP hopes the rich asshole will save Alabama Senate seat
BY ALEXANDER BOLTON - 11/15/17 06:00 AM EST
Republicans are looking for President the rich asshole to get them out of a jam and convince Roy Moore to drop out of the Senate race in Alabama.
So far, their calls for Moore to step aside over allegations of sexual misconduct have fallen on deaf ears.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said Tuesday that he has talked with the president about Moore, and that the conversations would continue once the rich asshole returns to Washington on Wednesday.
It’s not clear whether the rich asshole will pressure Moore to drop out, or if he has any interest in getting involved in a fight that pits McConnell against his former White House chief strategist, Stephen Bannon.
But Senate Republicans think the rich asshole may be their best hope for stopping Moore, who is alleged to have had a sexual encounter with a 14-year-old girl in 1979, when he was 32.
A senior Senate GOP aide said leaders want the rich asshole to join them in pressing Moore to drop out of the race and see the president as their most effective advocate.
“If he doesn’t have the rich asshole, who does he have?” the aide said of Moore, whose support in the party has eroded since the allegations became public last week.
A Decision Desk HQ-Opinion Savvy poll on Friday showed Moore tied with his Democratic opponent, Doug Jones, at 46 percent.
Another poll over the weekend by JMC Analytics showed Jones leading Moore 46 percent to 42 percent, with 9 percent undecided.
A source close to the Senate GOP leadership said the rich asshole could tip the balance.
“The president is uniquely positioned to influence the outcome because of his own popularity in Alabama among Republican voters,” said the source.
“The best surrogate for Washington Republicans in Alabama is some rich asshole. His point of view would carry a lot of weight down there.”
But the rich asshole’s influence over Moore is diminished by the fact that he endorsed his opponent, incumbent Sen. Luther Strange (R), in the Alabama GOP primary in September.
the rich asshole, for his part, was reportedly furious after he backed Strange and he lost, a blow to his perceived power over the Republican base.
the rich asshole deleted his tweets supporting Strange and may not be willing to risk another loss by pressing Moore unsuccessfully to quit his bid.
McConnell, however, told reporters Tuesday that the president and his senior advisers are alarmed by the emergence of five women who have accused Moore of predatory behavior.
“The president called me from Vietnam on Friday. We had a chance to discuss this issue. I talked to General Kelly about it on Saturday, I talked to the vice president about it yesterday,” McConnell said, referring to White House chief of staff John Kelly and Vice President Pence.
“There’s no question that there’s a deep concern here,” he added, calling Moore’s accusers “entirely credible.”
The leader stopped short of endorsing a vote to expel Moore if he wins the seat in next month’s special election.
“He’s obviously not fit to be in the United States Senate and we have looked at all the options to prevent that from happening,” he said. “Obviously this close to the election it’s a very complicated matter, and I think once the president and his team get back we’ll have further discussions about it.”
Moore struck back on Twitter, calling on McConnell to resign instead.
“The good people of Alabama, not the Washington elite who wallow in the swamp, will decide this election! #DitchMitch,” he wrote.
McConnell said at an event sponsored by The Wall Street Journal later in the day that he wants Attorney General Jeff Sessions to run for his old Senate seat as a write-in candidate. Allies of Sessions have reportedly said he is not interested.
A few Republicans on Monday called for a vote to expel Moore from the Senate if he wins the special election.
“The Senate should vote to expel him because he does not meet the ethical and moral requirements of the United States Senate,” National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman Cory Gardner (Colo.) said in a statement.
That could be a messy process, however.
The Senate has voted on several occasions by majority vote to unseat a senator because the results of an election were contested.
If Moore wins the race and the state of Alabama certifies the results, it would likely require an expulsion vote — which requires a supermajority of 67 votes — to kick him out of the Senate.
Senate Republicans and Democrats on Tuesday said the Senate Ethics Committee or another investigative body should examine the facts thoroughly before taking action.
“Right now we’ve got to get through the election and see if that’s something we even have to deal with,” said Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.).
Prior to an expulsion vote, Tillis said, “we have to examine the facts as they exist.”
Sen. Jon Tester (D-Mont.) said Moore or anyone accused of criminal behavior is “innocent until proven guilty.”
It could take weeks of investigation by the Ethics Committee before a vote on expulsion is held, and there is no clear legal justification to block him from being seated if Alabama’s secretary of State certifies his victory.
Senate Ethics Committee Chairman Johnny Isakson (R-Ga.) declined to comment on any action his committee might take.
Alabama voters began casting absentee ballots on Oct. 18, so there’s no way to get Moore off the ballot, according to Alabama Secretary of State John Merrill.
However, if the Alabama Republican Party disqualifies Moore as its nominee before the election and he still wins the race, the election results would be nullified.

President the rich asshole on Wednesday claimed credit for securing the return of three UCLA basketball players arrested in China, questioning whether they would thank him for his efforts.

Do you think the three UCLA Basketball Players will say thank you President Trump? They were headed for 10 years in jail!
The three players, LiAngelo Ball, Jalen Hill and Cody Riley, were detained after being accused of stealing a pair of sunglasses from a Louis Vuitton store near the hotel where they were staying in Hangzhou.
the rich asshole reportedly raised the issue with his Chinese counterpart, President Xi Jinping, during his visit to Beijing. Xi promised to look into the case and told the rich asshole the players would be treated fairly, The Washington Post reported Monday.
The UCLA men's basketball team was in China for a weeklong trip, during which they played a game against Georgia Tech without the detained trio. The rest of the team then flew back to the U.S. over the weekend.
Ball, Hill and Riley were returned to the U.S. on Tuesday.
The players' detentions coincided with the rich asshole's own visit to China, as part of a broader trip across Asia. The president returned to Washington on Tuesday night.
BY JORDAN FABIAN - 11/15/17 06:00 AM EST
President the rich asshole finished his marathon, five-country trip to Asia on Tuesday, capping off a 13-day journey that forced the president to confront some of the most pressing problems facing the United States.
It was the longest foreign trip for any sitting president since George H.W. Bush and the rich asshole’s first visit to the Asia-Pacific as commander in chief, giving him an opportunity to pressure countries in the region to do more to confront North Korea and address trade imbalances with the U.S.
Here are five takeaways from the trip.
Many words, but few actions
The president departed for Asia with two main goals: convince other nations to step up pressure on North Korea over its nuclear program and persuade them to buy more American products in order to reverse decades of trade deficits.
Asian allies, meanwhile, were looking for signs that the “America First” president had not abandoned the region after pulling out of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade agreement earlier this year.
On North Korea, the rich asshole gave the leaders of Japan and South Korea what they were looking for when he warned Pyongyang “do not try us” by escalating nuclear provocations.
Trade was a different story.
the rich asshole told an audience of Asian leaders in Vietnam that he is “not going to let the United States be taken advantage of anymore,” indicating a pivot away from the multinational trade deals of the past.
The president appeared to score a quick win when he announced more than $250 billion in business deals with China. But many of the agreements were nonbinding and short on specifics.
Meanwhile, the rich asshole was one-upped when the 11 other TPP nations announced they had reached an agreement on the core elements of a pact without the U.S.
While the rich asshole left Asia without a major achievement, he signaled such an announcement might come on Wednesday, when he is expected to speak about trade.
The president has also said he will soon make a decision whether to place North Korea back on the list of state sponsors of terrorism, a move designed to further isolate the rogue nation.
Flattery is a winning strategy
To the rich asshole, the warm reception he received in Asia was enough to declare the trip a success.
Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe welcomed the rich asshole to the region with a round of golf with Hideki Matsuyama, one of the world’s top pros. It was the second time the two leaders have hit the links together.
While toasting the rich asshole at a state dinner, Abe said, “When you play golf with someone not just once, but for two times, the person must be your favorite guy.”
South Korean President Moon Jae-in marked the one-year anniversary of the rich asshole’s 2016 election victory, one of the president’s favorite topics, and noted the U.S. stock market gains since then.
“You are already making great progress on making America great again,” Moon said, borrowing the rich asshole’s signature campaign phrase.
Chinese President Xi Jinping treated the rich asshole to a rare musical performance in Beijing’s Forbidden City and called the U.S. president’s visit “an event of historic importance.”
Asian leaders appeared to bet that the flattery could help disarm the rich asshole, who has threatened to roil the U.S. trade and security ties in the region. So far, the wager has paid off.
“It was red carpet like nobody, I think, has probably ever received,” the president said of his reception in Asia. “And that really is a sign of respect, perhaps, for me a little bit, but really for our country.”
the rich asshole tempered his heated rhetoric on many occasions during his trip and mostly avoided pressing leaders publicly about controversial issues involving their countries.
In China, for example, the rich asshole said he gives the government “great credit” for “being able to take advantage” of the U.S. on trade.
Human rights take a back seat
the rich asshole appeared determined to return the favor to his Asian counterparts, celebrating the fact he made “many good friends” with leaders across the region.
One way he achieved that was by muting any public criticism of human-rights abuses in the countries he visited.
In the Philippines, the rich asshole repeatedly praised President Rodrigo Duterte, who has overseen a deadly crackdown on drug rings that has been decried by human-rights advocates.
“We’ve had a great relationship,” the rich asshole said of Duterte during a meeting in Manila. He ignored reporters’ questions about human rights.
White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders later said human rights came up “briefly” in the context of the drug war.
In a departure from his predecessors, the rich asshole did not call out China for its restrictions on political dissent, free speech and religious freedom. He also did not take questions during a joint press availability with Xi.
Critics called it a missed opportunity to highlight U.S. values overseas. In a 2014 press conference with former President Barack Obama, Xi reacted angrily when asked by a The New York Times reporter about his country’s lack of press freedoms.
Russia looms large
Even though he was on the other side of the world, the rich asshole could not escape the shadow of the Russia investigation hanging over his administration.
Some of that was the rich asshole’s own doing. He met with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit and later said he believes Putin is being sincere when he claims Moscow did not interfere in the 2016 presidential election.
The president was forced to clean up his comments, telling reporters “I’m with our agencies” on election meddling.
The remarks caused a stir back in Washington, which was consumed for days with new steps in special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe into Russian election interference, including the indictment of two former the rich asshole campaign advisers and a guilty plea from a third.
News reports indicated that the rich asshole’s former White House national security adviser, Michael Flynn, could be the next person to find himself in Mueller’s crosshairs.
Roy Moore decision awaits
Throughout his Asia tour, the rich asshole was mostly able to avoid the growing firestorm surrounding Republican senate candidate Roy Moore.
That will no longer be the case once he touches down late Tuesday night at Joint Base Andrews.
The president has come under mounting pressure from Republicans to weigh in on what the party should do about Moore, who has been accused of sexual misconduct by multiple women in the last week.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), who has called on Moore to drop out of the Alabama Senate race, said Tuesday a final decision won’t be made until the rich asshole is consulted.
Influential figures of the rich asshole’s base, however, are sticking with the former Alabama state Supreme Court chief justice, including former chief White House strategist Stephen Bannon.
That will make a decision harder for the rich asshole.

"Do you think the three UCLA Basketball Players will say thank you President the rich asshole?" the rich asshole wrote on Twitter. "They were headed for 10 years in jail!"

It was the second time the two leaders have hit the links together.

the rich asshole caught tweeting about the wrong mass shooting

President Donald Trump tweeted about the wrong mass shooting late Tuesday after a gunman launched a gun rampage in California and killed at least four people before trying to enter an elementary school.
On Tuesday evening, Trump tweeted: “May God be with the people of Sutherland Springs, Texas. The FBI and Law Enforcement has arrived.”
Sutherland Springs is a village in Texas where ten days earlier a gunman had killed 26 people at a church. He had tweeted a similar message after the November 5 attack.
“May God be w/ the people of Sutherland Springs, Texas. The FBI & law enforcement are on the scene. I am monitoring the situation from Japan,” he wrote at the time.
Social media users accused him of copying and pasting the message and using it as a template after mass shootings, but it remains unclear what was behind the president’s social media mistake. The tweet remains online and Trump is yet to correct or clarify the mistake.
The shooter, who police identified as 44-year-old Kevin Janson Neal, injured at least ten people in the shooting rampage at several locations in the small northern Californian town of Rancho Tehama Reserve, located around 200 kilometers from Sacramento, on Tuesday.
He entered a school but its staff had quickly locked classroom doors after hearing gunshots. Police later shot him dead. All of those killed are adults. It is reported that the shooting was perpetrated by Neal who had a violent past.
Critics took to social media to criticize the president for mixing up his mass shootings. British presenter Piers Morgan wrote on Twitter: “At least get your mass shootings right, Mr President. This was last week. The new one is in California.”
One user tweeted: “This shooting took place ten days ago. Ten.”
Another wrote: “Today the president of the United States couldn’t remember and didn’t even bother to check where the country’s most recent mass shooting took place.”
Other social media users said that the president’s failure to remember the name of the mass shooting was a sign that he could not keep up with the amount of incidents, adding to the argument for greater gun reform.
In response to the Sutherland Springs attack, the president blamed mental health for such assaults and said it was not a problem of gun ownership.
“I think that mental health is a problem here. Based on preliminary reports, this was a very deranged individual with a lot of problems over a very long period of time,” he said at a press conference in Tokyo, where he was embarking on a marathon 12-day tour of Asia, which has now come to an end.
“We have a lot of mental health problems in our country, as do other countries, but this isn’t a guns situation…we could go into it but it’s a little bit soon to go into it. Fortunately somebody else had a gun that was shooting in the opposite direction, otherwise it wouldn’t have been as bad as it was, it would have been much worse.
“This is a mental health problem at the highest level. It’s a very sad event … these are great people at a very, very sad event, but that’s the way I view it.”

Most Americans don’t want to see the rich asshole run in 2020
Harriet Sinclair

Most voters are not thrilled by the prospect of eight years of President Donald Trump, with a new poll showing the majority of Americans would like to see a different candidate in 2020.
A November survey conducted for the University of Delaware's Center for Political Communication by RABA Research found that 54 percent of respondents do not feel Trump should run again in 2020, with almost a quarter of Republicans (23 percent) believing their party should pick another presidential hopeful.
Unsurprisingly, a vast majority of Democrats do not want to see a Trump 2020 bid, with just 16 percent backing a run for a second term for the incumbent president.
"Not many polls have historically asked about re-election so early in a President's term, as favorability tends to drop over time," said University of Delaware's Lindsay Hoffman, director of the National Agenda Series in a statement on Tuesday.
"For example, a Gallup poll in early 2010 showed 84 percent of Democrats thought Obama deserved re-election, compared with 10 percent of Republicans. That we are seeing similar numbers so early in Trump's term is surprising," she added.
Trump has faced a number of challenges in the year since his election victory, ranging from the ongoing probe into Russia’s alleged attempt to influence the outcome of the 2016 presidential election, to staffing changes, rumors of infighting, open disagreements with his GOP colleagues and failure to secure adequate backing on his healthcare bill.
The survey of 659 people, conducted on November 11, also showed people are unsure on tax reforms being pushed by the president—with just 33 percent backing a reduction in corporate tax, 44 percent opposing such a move and the remainder of people unsure on the issue.
In recent days, Trump also appears to have complicated the tax issue further by calling for additional amendments to the plans—including a push for the tax benefits he believes would come from repealing Obamacare.
On November 13, shortly after the poll was taken, the president tweeted: "I am proud of the Rep. House & Senate for working so hard on cutting taxes [& reform] We're getting close! Now, how about ending the unfair & highly unpopular indiv Mandate in Ocare & reducing taxes even further? Cut top rate to 35% w/all of the rest going to middle income cuts?"

Now, how about ending the unfair & highly unpopular indiv Mandate in Ocare & reducing taxes even further? Cut top rate to 35% w/all of the rest going to middle income cuts?"
This historian of modern German history explains the true horror of the rich asshole’s relationship with the Justice Department
DON'T MISS STORIES. FOLLOW RAW STORY!
Throughout his presidential campaign, some rich asshole described his opponent, Hillary Clinton, as a criminal and said she should be tried and put in jail (of her guilt, he had no doubt). Commentators at the time noted the extreme nature of such rhetoric and the fact that demands for the investigation and imprisonment of political opponents was alien to the American system. But, they speculated, perhaps it was just that—rhetoric—and with his inauguration as President, he would leave such dangerous talk behind.
It turns out, however, that the rich asshole has proven unable to let go of his obsession with his defeated rival. In early November 2017—nearly one year after his election victory—he was not only continuing to attack Clinton, but also calling on the FBI and the Justice Department to investigate her. He he was “very frustrated” by the fact that he’s unable to order those agencies to “go after” his former opponent—something he said he would very much love to do.
It was a horrifying moment as the President of the United States, perhaps more clearly than at any previous time, expressed the thoughts and desires of an autocrat. And today, with the announcement that Attorney General Jeff Sessions will explore the possibility of creating a new special counsel to investigate Hillary Clinton, those thoughts and desires have moved that much closer to being realized.
Such open calls for criminal investigations of political opponents are truly unprecedented in American history—and for good reason, since they would undermine the very foundation of liberal democracy. If the president could order the FBI to investigate Hillary Clinton, where would it stop? Anyone who spoke out to criticize such a brazen act would be vulnerable to the same treatment. And then any individual or any group—regardless of whether they had actually done anything—would be at the mercy of the rich asshole’s politicized justice system. The president would be able to exclude anyone he wished from the national community. The road to dictatorship would be wide open to him. We know this because it was such a system that helped destroy democracy in Germany and helped Hitler establish his Nazi dictatorship.
One of most significant challenges the new Weimar Republic faced was a politicized judicial system—an important element in the weakening of German democracy. One of the key failings of the revolution that toppled the German Empire in 1918 was the failure of the revolutionaries to establish a truly republican judiciary by allowing the judges from the old imperial system to remain on the bench. These were men who’d been trained and established their careers under the old authoritarian system. They had no sympathy for the new liberal, democratic regime. And the verdicts they rendered made this exceedingly clear. Political crimes committed by individuals on the left consistently received longer prison sentences than those committed by people on the right.
The best-known example of this skewed system of justice is the case of Adolf Hitler. Arrested in 1923 after having attempted to overthrow the government, he was tried and convicted of treason. The conservative judge sympathized with the young Nazi leader’s goal, if not with his methods, and therefore sentenced him to a mere five years in a rather comfortable prison. He would end up serving only nine months. A justice system that openly flouted the republic’s liberal, democratic values seriously undermined the government’s legitimacy and gave hope to those who continued to work for its destruction. In less than a decade, the battered republic would succumb, thanks in no small measure to the aid and comfort provided to the forces of the right by a politicized illiberal, anti-democratic system of justice. Under Hitler, the justice system became a tool for the establishment of his dictatorship and for the policies of exclusion he pursued.
Immediately after coming to power, Adolf Hitler targeted his main political opponents: the German Communist Party. With his fellow Nazi Hermann Goering heading the Interior Ministry, members of the SA were now deputized as auxiliary police and, along with the traditional police forces, tasked with the assault on Germany’s communists. Storm Troopers attacked communists in the streets, arrested them, and brought them to makeshift jails where they beat, tortured, and sometimes killed them. After the communists, it was the Socialists’ turn to experience Hitler’s brand of justice. Those not beaten or tortured to death were driven underground, into exile, or were sent to the new concentration camps being built and operated by the SS.
To the new Chancellor, the communists and socialists were not simply political opponents. They were enemies, traitors who had already betrayed the nation in the First World War and toppled the old regime in revolution. As a result, those who participated in this bloody state-sponsored rampage would face no legal consequences. Not only that, but “enemies” accused of crimes could face punishments far more severe than the law would normally allow. The man accused of setting the Reichstag building ablaze as the first step in a communist uprising, for example, should have faced a straightforward prison sentence. But Hitler’s desire for what he considered justice led him to pressure the Justice Minister Franz Gürtner (also a judicial holdover from the Empire) to write a new law—an ex post facto law that made the alleged arsonist’s crime a capital offense.
Hitler had begun to subvert the law to serve his political goals. Police and judicial authority had to be subordinated to the will of the leader. A politicized justice system would allow him to target and eliminate any and all groups he considered outside the bounds of the German national community.
One of the most important steps for any would-be autocrat is to gain control of the justice system and turn it into a tool for the elimination of any and all opposition. Normally that’s something that Americans observe from a distance—in the pages of history books or newspapers telling of coups and show trials and the exiling or execution of political challengers in some distant country or from some other period. Perhaps such distance has lulled Americans into a false sense of security. That’s something that only happens “over there,” or “back in those times.” The American tradition of liberalism and democracy will protect us. We’re exceptional.
But it’s precisely that self-confidence—more like self-delusion—that can work to some rich asshole’s advantage. His clearly anti-democratic statements and wishes can be shrugged off as mere rhetoric. How many people early on dismissed Hitler as a buffoon? How many people doubted he’d last any longer in office than his two most recent predecessors? Far more quickly than anyone would have imagined possible—helped greatly by the unforeseen Reichstag fire—Hitler had succeeded in bending the courts and the police to his will. By that point it was too late. German democracy was not destroyed in a coup or a violent revolution. It was undermined from within. Circumstance and Hitler’s determination did the rest.

Oklahoma elects gay married woman in a district the rich asshole won by 39 points
NOVEMBER 15, 2017
Allison Ikley-Freeman, an open lesbian in a same-sex marriage, won a deeply conservative state senate district in Oklahoma — the fourth seat Democrats have flipped in the state since 2016.
Facebook
One week after their blowout victory in state races around the country, it is clear that Democrats’ newfound competitiveness down the ballot is showing no signs of fading.
In a new special election this Tuesday, voters headed to the polls in Oklahoma — and flipped yet another red seat blue.
The Democratic candidate, 26-year-old Allison Ikley-Freeman, is a mental health counselor and openly gay woman in a same-sex marriage. She defeated GOP candidate Brian O’Hara for Senate District 37, winning by just 31 votes.
Ikley-Freeman will be the third openly LGBT person to serve in the Oklahoma State Legislature, after state Sen. Al McAffrey and state Rep. Kay Floyd.
Oklahoma is one of the most consistently Republican states. It is one of only three states in which every single county voted for the rich asshole. District 37, in western Tulsa County, is certainly not left-leaning. Its residents voted for the rich asshole by 39 points, and former GOP state Sen. Dan Newberry by 15 points.
But this year, Oklahoma Democrats have flipped four legislative seats blue in a series of special elections, chipping away at the Republican state legislative majority. Every one of those seats is in districts that backed the rich asshole by double-digit margins.
As America heads into a midterm election year, the signs of a Democratic wave are growing. Polls show voters overwhelmingly want Democrats to control the House of Representatives, and that Democratic voters have an edge over Republican voters in enthusiasm and willingness to volunteer. Meanwhile, Republican lawmakers are retiring at a rapid clip, and Democrats are setting records for candidate recruitment.
Ikley-Freeman’s victory shows that this tide of resistance is affecting even the most conservative parts of the country. All across America, Democrats have the public sentiment and are ready to bring the heat.

What some rich asshole's UCLA tweets reveal about him
Washington (CNN)Think about this: You've just spent nearly two weeks halfway around the world. You've spent most of the last 24 hours on a plane. Your body clock is somewhere between 12-14 hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time. You are 71 years old.
What's one of the first things you do -- after you likely sleep a bit -- on your first day back at your desk for work?
If you're President some rich asshole, you send out this tweet: "Do you think the three UCLA Basketball Players will say thank you President the rich asshole? They were headed for 10 years in jail!"
Let's leave aside the rich asshole referring to himself in the third person in the tweet -- that deserves a post all its own -- and focus on the psychology behind this tweet in this moment.
the rich asshole is someone who likes to be praised. He likes to be adulated at all times -- and tends to respond well to people who say nice things about him. (See "Putin, Vladimir.")
He wants to get credit. Always. He seethes when either he doesn't get the credit he thinks he deserves or sees someone else getting credit for something he did.
Case in point: Steve Bannon's stock fell in the rich asshole's eyes in the early days of the administration when the White House strategist was cast as the real power behind the throne -- in both a Time magazine cover and in his portrayal on "Saturday Night Live."
This, from an April New York Times story, is illuminating on that front:
"some rich asshole remains annoyed by a February cover of Time magazine labeling Mr. Bannon 'The Great Manipulator,' telling one visitor this month, 'That doesn't just happen' -- a favored the rich asshole expression for anger at subordinates who tend to their interests ahead of his."
Which brings us back to the UCLA players tweet.
The three players -- which include the younger brother of Los Angeles Laker Lonzo Ball -- are accused of shoplifting during a trip to China to play a game. (They reportedly stole sunglasses from a Louis Vutton store.)
the rich asshole told the media that he spoke directly to Chinese President Xi Jinping about the case. The three players were released on Tuesday and arrived back in Los Angeles at 6 p.m. PT Tuesday night.
Larry Scott, the PAC-12 commissioner -- the conference that includes UCLA -- quickly issued a statement thanking the rich asshole. "We want to thank the President, the White House and the US State Department for their efforts towards resolution," said Scott.
That "thank you" is apparently not enough for the rich asshole, at least according to his tweet. He wants the actual players -- LiAngelo Ball, Cody Riley and Jalen Hill -- to say "thank you."
That the three players are all young black men should also not be lost here. the rich asshole's history on racial issues -- both as president and as a private citizen -- shows some level of intentionality when it comes to using racially coded language and taking advantage of racial animus and stereotypes for his own political gain.
The image of an older white man in a position of power demanding thanks from three young black men for saving them will set off a lot of alarm bells for people. And, understandably so, given the rich asshole's previous actions in the wake of the white supremacist violence in Charlottesville, Virginia, and in the ongoing NFL anthem protests.
Even if you take out the racial element, what the rich asshole is asking for is to be thanked (or, more accurately, thanked by the "right" people) for doing his job.
Part of being President is trying to get US citizens out of dicey situations in foreign countries. That doesn't mean that the rich asshole's personal appeal to Xi didn't have any effect. In fact, it likely played a major role in the release of the players. But, demanding to be praised by three teenagers for what you did for them isn't exactly presidential.
Maybe it's "modern day presidential"?
Twitter Is Having A Field Day With Jeff Sessions’ Congressional Testimony
On Tuesday, Attorney General Jeff Sessions went before the House of Representatives to answer questions about his repeated lies to the Senate and why he is letting Hillary Clinton get away with being a supervillain who wants to destroy America. Okay, I made that last part up, that wasn’t really supposed to be a topic for this hearing but….Republicans. Sessions, being the totally honest man he is, answered questions with a refreshing amount of transparency. Okay, okay, I made that up too. Every time Sessions was asked about his meetings with the Russians or the rich asshole Campaign officials’ meetings and contact with Russians the little Alabama elf just could not seem to recall anything. It was like someone came along and just plucked the memories right out of his sweet little brain, bless his heart.
His inability to answer questions like a proper attorney general and the repeated Republican attacks on everyone but the rich asshole lead to a lot of fun on Twitter. The social media users have been mocking Sessions for hours and it doesn’t seem to be slowing down. Here are some of my favorite tweets:

Honestly, the congressional hearing is ridiculous. The committee is allowing Sessions to lie his way through another hearing while under oath. The attorney general of the United States should not be permitted to continue to bullshit the American people, but with Republicans in charge here we are.
