February 6th-7th, 2017. It's been 451-452 days since the Nov 8, 2016, election of some rich asshole, no.45, and 379-380 days since the Jan 20th inauguration.

Prosecutor charges suspect in Edwin Jackson’s death — and rips the rich asshole for ‘ghoulish and inappropriate’ remarks

Agence France-Presse

A suspected drunk driver who killed Indianapolis Colts player Edwin Jackson in a car accident was charged Wednesday by a prosecutor who also chastised President some rich asshole for comments that “politicized the tragedy.”
Jackson and the driver of his ride-share car Jeffrey Monroe were killed Sunday morning after a black Ford F-150 pickup driven by a 37-year-old undocumented immigrant man struck both of them as they were standing on the side of a highway, according to police.
Manuel Orrego-Zavala was charged Wednesday by prosecutors in the state of Indianapolis with four felony counts of failing to remain at the scene of an accident and causing a deadly accident while drunk.
His immigration status prompted the rich asshole on Tuesday to tie the tragedy to his political battle to tighten immigration laws. But the Indiana prosecutor in charge of the case rebuked the president and others who have made such a connection.
“We are disheartened that ghoulish and inappropriate public commentary has politicized this tragedy,” Marion County prosecutor Terry Curry said in a statement.
“Much of such commentary, including tweets by the President, fails to acknowledge that both Edwin Jackson and Jeffrey Monroe lost their lives on Sunday. We will simply seek justice on behalf of the families of those two victims.”
Orrego-Zavala allegedly tried to flee the scene of the crash, but was caught by a state police officer. He is an undocumented immigrant from Guatemala who previously had been deported twice and was arrested several times in California for drunk driving.
Since taking office, the rich asshole has repeatedly tried to link immigration with crime, and demanded that Democrats in Congress agree to more spending to build a wall on the Mexican border and on America’s ICE deportation force.
“So disgraceful that a person illegally in our country killed @Colts linebacker Edwin Jackson. This is just one of many such preventable tragedies. We must get the Dems to get tough on the Border, and with illegal immigration, FAST!” the rich asshole tweeted.
Federal prosecutors on Tuesday charged Orrego-Zavala with illegal re-entry into the US, a crime for which he could face 10 years in prison. According to the complaint, immigration officers arrested and deported him in October 2006 and again in March 2009.

the rich asshole praises Elon Musk for SpaceX launch, forgets Musk is from a ‘shitthole country’

The president praised Musk's recent Falcon Heavy test-launch as "American ingenuity at its best."

President the rich asshole on Tuesday night tweeted his support for billionaire engineer and entrepreneur Elon Musk, whose aerospace company, SpaceX, had test-launched the Falcon Heavy lift rocket from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida earlier in the day. the rich asshole claimed that the rocket, which is eventually intended to carry payloads of up to 70 tons into low-earth orbit, was proof of “American ingenuity at its best.”
“Congratulations @ElonMusk and @SpaceX on the successful #FalconHeavy launch,” the rich asshole tweeted. “This achievement, along with @NASA’s commercial and international partners, continues to show American ingenuity at its best!”

Congratulations @ElonMusk and @SpaceX on the successful launch. This achievement, along with @NASA’s commercial and international partners, continues to show American ingenuity at its best!

Musk, of course, is not only an American innovator, but a South African immigrant who came to the United States in 1992. He obtained an H1-B visa shortly after graduating from the University of Pennsylvania and the Wharton School with degrees in physics and economics, respectively, allowing him to pursue his business aspirations in various energy and aerospace fields.
Both of those things might otherwise rankle the rich asshole, who has expressed his desire to limit immigration from several African nations and whose administration is reportedly considering overhauling the H1-B visa program, which awards visas to highly skilled workers.
the rich asshole has previously criticized the United States’ decision to allow immigrants from African countries. During a bipartisan meeting with lawmakers in early January, the president came under fire after calling those nations “shithole countries” and wondering aloud why the United States was not seeking more immigrants from places like Norway instead.
“Why are we having all these people from shithole countries come here?” he asked before suggesting that the United States remove immigrants from poorer nations like Haiti as well.
Immigrants like Musk are also targeted under the rich asshole’s reported H1-B proposal, which directs agents to more closely inspect the documentation of both new and returning applicants. Such increased vetting is already slowing immigration and throwing up roadblocks for workers seeking to renew their documentation, advocates say. In some cases, authorities are requesting pages-worth of background information before considering them for the visa.
“It’s not unusual in the world of immigration to get a request for evidence, but this one is being sent to everyone who applies,” William Brah, director of the Venture Development Center at University of Massachusetts Boston, told The Boston Globe in December. “We’re not sure what the rationale is other than slowing down immigration.”
Musk became an American citizen in 2002, taking his oath of citizenship in Pomona, California. After the rich asshole took office in January 2017, Musk — who was originally appointed to both the rich asshole’s policy and manufacturing councils — began lobbying on behalf of immigrants who would be affected by the president’s policies.
When the president signed an executive order on January 27 limiting refugees from entering the United States and banning travelers from several Muslim-majority nations, Musk tweeted that the ban was “not the best way to address the country’s challenges.”
“Many people negatively affected by this policy are strong supporters of the US,” he wrote. “They’ve done right, not wrong & don’t deserve to be rejected.”
The blanket entry ban on citizens from certain primarily Muslim countries is not the best way to address the country’s challenges
Many people negatively affected by this policy are strong supporters of the US. They've done right, not wrong & don't deserve to be rejected.

One day later, he tweeted about the ban again, saying that he would seek “advisory council consensus” on the issue and present those arguments to the president.
“…There is no possibility of retraction, but there is possibility of modification,” he tweeted, responding to a Twitter user who argued that the executive order was unlikely to be rescinded. “It’s just a non-zero possibility. Don’t know more.”
Musk resigned from both White House advisory councils in June last year, in protest of the rich asshole’s decision to withdraw from the Paris climate agreement. The president’s immigration order remains caught up in the courts; a third round of legal arguments will be heard by the Supreme Court in April.

‘But this is red, white and blue!’ Fox host short circuits after guest compares the rich asshole parade to North Korea

Brad Reed

07 FEB 2018 AT 11:20 ET
Fox News host Bill Hemmer on Wednesday acted incredulous when Fox military analyst Ralph Peters threw cold water on President some rich asshole’s plan to have a massive military parade featuring American weapons such as tanks and missiles.
When asked by Hemmer for his thoughts on “showing off American might down Pennsylvania Avenue” by Hemmer, Peters immediately signaled that he was not on board with the plan.
“The French march well, we fight well,” he said bluntly. “Take your pick. If we really want to honor our troops and support them, pass the defense budget.”
Peters went on to explain that he found it distasteful for Americans to be parading weapons and vehicles down the street simply to show off military strength.
“When we have military parades we do honor the troops,” he said. “It is the human element, not heavy metal war machines rolling down the streets of American cities.”
Hemmer then asked Peters what he thought about reporters and analysts saying that the rich asshole’s parade idea is similar to the types of parades we see in Russia and North Korea — and he was taken aback when Peters said the comparisons were apt.
“They’re right,” Peters said. “The people that parade weapons are the North Koreans and the Russians.”
“This is not to parade weapons as if it’s some sort of offensive gesture!” Hemmer interjected emotionally. “This is red, white and blue!”

President the rich asshole interrupts intelligence briefing to tweet about ‘BOMBSHELL FBI TEXTS’

David Edwards

07 FEB 2018 AT 11:28 ET
President some rich asshole on Wednesday apparently interrupted a scheduled intelligence briefing to tweet about FBI text messages which he suggests vindicates him in the Russia investigation.
FBI agent text messages released this week were hyped by conservative media as proof that President Barack Obama wanted to spy on then-candidate some rich asshole’s campaign.
And although the rich asshole was scheduled to receive an intelligence briefing at 11 a.m. ET, he was instead tweeting about the text messages at 11:10 a.m.

The fact that the rich asshole likely delayed or interrupted his intelligence briefing was not lost on members of the media.

Trump apparently tweeted this during his daily intelligence briefing, which White House schedule says was to start at 11 am https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/961270833569202176

Fox News had a report on the texts starting around 11:03 this AM

Meanwhile, the official White House schedule said POTUS was getting his intel briefing at 11, https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/961270833569202176

Trump’s public schedule had him receiving his intelligence briefing at 11AM. He tweeted this at 11:10. https://twitter.com/realdonaldtrump/status/961270833569202176

GOP surrogate: Dems earned ‘treason’ label because they called the rich asshole a ‘traitor’ for Russia collusion first

David Edwards

07 FEB 2018 AT 11:07 ET
American Conservative Union President Matt Schlapp, whose wife works for the White House, defended President some rich asshole’s assertion that Democrats who refused to applaud the president’s State of the Union address are “treasonous.”
During an interview with MSNBC’s Katy Tur, Schlapp shrugged off recent remarks by the president that repeatedly suggesting Democrats who refused to applaud and stand during his annual speech are traitors to the United States.
“The Democrats have spent the last year calling some rich asshole a traitor, saying he colluded with Russia,” Schlapp complained. “We’ve spend a lot of time throwing around the ‘T’ word, the treason word. And I think the president was putting it right back in their face. It’s an unkind charge and maybe what we ought to do is start working together better.”
Tur accused Schlapp of conflating the facts.
“The dossier is alleging Russian coordination during the election,” she said. “Basically usurping democratic sovereignty. This is some rich asshole saying you didn’t clap for me.”
“Treason!” Schlapp shouted. “The dossier… is accusing some rich asshole of treason, which is not accurate and has dominated our politics for a year. And it just seems ridiculous to all of the sudden bring up the concept that some rich asshole is raising this term treason. He is the one who has been charged with it by almost every elected Democrat for a year.”

WATCH: Tea Party lawmaker squirms when asked whether taxpayers should fund the rich asshole’s military parade boondoggle

Brad Reed

07 FEB 2018 AT 10:53 ET
Tea Party Rep. David Brat (R-VA) squirmed on Wednesday when CNN’s John Berman asked him whether he thought American taxpayers should foot the bill for President some rich asshole’s proposed massive military parade.
After Berman initially asked Brat whether it was really worth paying millions of dollars so the rich asshole could parade tanks and missiles down Pennsylvania Avenue, Brat initially sounded a note of caution about the parade.
“I’m going to wait to see the details on the military parade,” he said. “I heard it reported. I don’t know what it is yet. I love a good parade but don’t like spending money. We’ll see what the details look like.”
Berman asked him if he’d sign off on the parade if it cost taxpayers money.
“Well, I mean, most parades cost taxpayer dollars, that’s what I’m saying,” he said. “I can’t make a comment on that.”
Berman refused to let him off the hook, however, and told him that he certainly can make a comment on it given that Congress holds the government’s purse strings.
Brat responded by attacking the Democratic Party.
“Well, what’s too much [money] since we’re doing policy, the Democrat tax plan,” he began.
“No, no, no!” Berman interrupted. “How much would be too much for the parade? How expensive would be too expensive? Give me a price tag.”
“You’re spending a lot of time on this,” Brat countered. “The Democrats raise taxes!”

‘Stock market got tired of winning’: Internet roasts whiny the rich asshole for hyping ‘good news’ about market crash

Sarah K. Burris

07 FEB 2018 AT 10:47 ET
Wednesday morning, President some rich asshole struggled to explain the Dow Jones plummeting after spending months touting the stock market’s success being his doing.
The president attempted to say that there is so much “great news” the market is going down, which he said is a mistake. It’s unclear, however, who the rich asshole is blaming for the mistake.
The internet was quick to mock the rich asshole for lacking a realistic grasp on both the market and the pulse of the country.
Brian Krassenstein also noted that the president giving stock advice is illegal and asked if he could sue if he invests and the market continues to fall. He went on to tweet that the president is attempting to pump up the market to make himself look good for political reasons.

The President of the United States is now giving stock advice to the American people illegally.

Can I sue you if I buy and the market drops further? You aren't a financial adviser last checked...

Last I checked you filed for multiple bankruptcies with your businesses. Why would we take stock advice from you?
The president of the United States has turned to Twitter to try and pump up the stock market because his policies are failing to do so.

SAD!

Others called the rich asshole out on the hypocrisy of claiming credit when the markets did well while passing the buck when it falls.
See the best of the best below:

Stock Market goes up: “Yay Trump, look what I’ve done, I’m the best, you’re welcome!”

Stock market goes down: “That damn fake news media, it’s their fault, if only they would report on the glories of my greatness!”

So Donald Trump is calling the Stock Market Fake?

What does Trump say when he gets on the scale to weight himself? Fake

<Calls hedge fund friend>
<pitches my Trump tweet-driven fund idea, this time with a bearish algo> https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/961253168968622086
We’ve confirmed ...Donald trump has not even most basic historical perspective on stock market permutations. I’m not stark crazy resistance nut but our President is dumber than a bag of rocks

Wait, I thought you were responsible for the Stock Market? When it was the highest it’s ever been, you took credit for it...now you aren’t? 🤔

identifies a new link in the anti-Trump conspiracy: stock traders. Basically there is no demographic too conservative for Trump’s suspicious id. https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/961253168968622086

In the old days we had highly respected presidents who respected others and behaved like adults. Now we have you.

You're an embarrassment to the office. Why are you so sensitive, like a teenage girl?

In the "old days," presidents weren't foolish enough to think they controlled the stock market.

Good news is subjective. Just because the top 1% and those that will allow you “stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn’t lose voters.” love it, doesn’t make it good news.

TRUMP: Okay. Stock market took a stumble today. You know, we'll call it... well, a little bigger than a pre-rally decline. If you watch the news or read a newspaper or really are alive in any way, you're going to hear about it in the next couple of hours. I'm not worried though.

And yet Trump bleated endlessly about how "the media never talks about the rising stock market!" This dotard knows nothing about economics outside of laundering money.

must be a "fake stock market" eh herr trump? or maybe what you perceive as good news aint so good hmmmm?

Is it concerning that Donald Trump is on Twitter this morning reenacting Pretty Woman where he's Julia Roberts and the stock market is the mean blonde Rodeo Drive sales lady?

House GOPer age-shames Senate Republicans for more military funding: ‘They’re old and don’t like to do things’

David Edwards

07 FEB 2018 AT 10:19 ET
Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-CA) took a shot at his colleagues in the Senate, calling them “old” because they had not passed a bill increasing funds for military defense.
In what was called a largely-symbolic vote last month, House Republicans passed the same defense spending bill for the third time. The only major difference is the current bill increases funding for Afghanistan operations by $1.2 billion.
During a Tuesday interview on Fox News, Hunter seemed unhappy that Republicans in the Senate were not moving quickly to take up the measure before tackling a continuing budget resolution that is needed to keep the government open.
“We’ll see if the Senate likes that,” Hunter said of the House bill. “My guess is they’re going to pull that [defense spending] out and they’re going to send us back a bill that puts the defense of this nation again on a continuing resolution.”
“The Senate simply needs to do its job,” the congressman added. “I understand they’re old and they don’t like to do things very often. They need to do their job now when it comes to national security.”
Experts say that there is little hope for the latest House defense spending bill in the Senate.

Jeff Sessions makes 2 ridiculous claims about the opioid crisis in less than a minute

"Sometimes, you just need to take two Bufferins or something and go to bed."

Speaking at a Heritage Foundation event to commemorate Ronald Reagan’s birthday on Tuesday night, Attorney General Jeff Sessions said his plan for solving the opioid crisis is more Bufferins and less marijuana.
Alluding to the 7 percent drop in opioid prescriptions last year, Sessions said “my goal in 2018 is to see a further decline,” adding that “we think doctors are just prescribing too many.”
“Sometimes, you just need to take two Bufferins or something and go to bed,” Sessions added. Bufferin is an over-the-counter aspirin brand.
Sessions went on to say that while the Drug Enforcement Agency may think that “a huge percentage of heroin addictions start with prescriptions,” he thinks there’s another cause.
“We think a lot of this is starting with marijuana or other drugs too,” Sessions said.

WATCH: Attorney General Jeff Sessions says his goal for 2018 is to see a further decline in prescriptions of opioids, and says, "we think a lot of this is starting with marijuana and other drugs."

New federally funded research, however, finds a link between the availability of medical marijuana and fewer opioid deaths. A RAND Corporation study published earlier this month showed “an approximately 20 percent decline in opioid overdose deaths associated with the passage of any state medical marijuana law.”
Sessions’ suggestion that fewer opioid prescriptions corresponds with fewer overdoses also isn’t supported by data. Provisional numbers from 2017 indicate that more than a record number of Americans died because of drug overdoses last year — more than 66,000. That happened despite the drop in opioid prescriptions Sessions mentioned during his remarks.

Wild new the rich asshole tweet insists the stock market crashing this week is ‘good news’

Brad Reed

07 FEB 2018 AT 10:09 ET
President some rich asshole on Wednesday claimed that the only reason the stock market has crashed this week is because there is too much good news.
“In the ‘old days,’ when good news was reported, the Stock Market would go up,” the rich asshole wrote. “Today, when good news is reported, the Stock Market goes down. Big mistake, and we have so much good (great) news about the economy!”

In the “old days,” when good news was reported, the Stock Market would go up. Today, when good news is reported, the Stock Market goes down. Big mistake, and we have so much good (great) news about the economy!

It is unclear what the rich asshole is talking about, although he may be reacting to reports that investors are in the mood to sell because they fear the Federal Reserve could hike interest rates to ward off inflation as the economy approaches full employment.
Nonetheless, the rich asshole’s new talking point about the stock market is a drastic departure from what he’s been saying about the stock market for the past year when he claimed credit for pushing the Dow Jones Industrial Average to record highs.
The Dow on Monday crashed by nearly 1,600 points, a record one-day nominal drop for the stock index.

‘A waste of money’: the rich asshole’s favorite news show ‘Fox & Friends’ just took a dump on his military parade

David Edwards

07 FEB 2018 AT 09:22 ET
Fox & Friends host Brian Kilmeade disagreed with President some rich asshole’s call for a military parade because he said that it would be a “waste of money.”
After seeing France’s Bastille Day military parade, the rich asshole reportedly ordered his administration to begin planning a U.S. military parade.
the rich asshole’s favorite morning show, Fox & Friends, was supportive of the idea — with the exception of Kilmeade.
“There are a lot of people at the Pentagon who would love to show off all the equipment,” co-host Steve Doocy opined.
“Yep,” co-host Ainsley Earhardt agreed.
“I don’t know,” Kilmeade replied. “It seems like a waste of money.”

Planning under way for the rich asshole’s military parade: General Dunford

Agence France-Presse

07 FEB 2018 AT 08:01 ET
The US military’s top officer said Wednesday that planning is underway after President some rich asshole ordered a military parade, an unconventional demand that has drawn comparisons to saber rattling more commonly associated with autocrats.
“I am aware of the president’s request and we are in the initial planning stages to meet the president’s direction,” General Joe Dunford, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told reporters during a visit to the Thai capital Bangkok.
Dunford is the first top US military official to publicly address the rich asshole’s longstanding wish for a large-scale military parade, which the White House confirmed Tuesday.
The general did not address a question on whether it would be a good use of military resources.
America normally reserves its military parades to mark the end of conflicts, such as in 1991 when President George H.W. Bush held a National Victory Parade in Washington to celebrate the end of the Gulf War.
the rich asshole’s request may well be popular among many Americans but has drawn scorn from critics, who said it would be a waste of money and was akin to events organised by authoritarian regimes.
Dunford’s visit to junta-ruled Thailand is part of a week-long tour of the US military’s enormous Pacific Command area.
He met his Thai counterpart Tarnchaiyan Srisuwan, as well as Defence Minister Prawit Wongsuwan and Prayut Chan-O-Cha, the leader of the junta.
After a hiatus following the 2014 coup, relations between Washington and Bangkok have resumed and Dunford said he looked forward to a continuing military-to-military relationship.
“They (Thailand) have been a good, strong partner for a long time. Our overall strength globally, but in particular in the Pacific, is our network of allies and partners. And so Thailand is an important part of that overall network,” Dunford told reporters travelling with him.
The praise was offered despite the junta’s recent postponement of a November 2018 election date which the junta chief announced after a White House visit in October.
The US has consistently urged the generals to follow through on a promised return to democracy.
But they have repeatedly let the poll timeline slip and maintained a tight lid on dissent, with bans on politics and protests of any kind.

Morning Joe challenges GOP lawmakers to push back against the rich asshole: ‘It only takes two to say no’

Travis Gettys

07 FEB 2018 AT 07:54 ET
MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough ripped Republicans for questioning President some rich asshole’s behavior — while doing nothing to challenge his “autocratic” abuses.
GOP lawmakers such as Sen. Ben Sasse (R-NE), Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN) and Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ) have spoken out against the president, but the “Morning Joe” host said talk was cheap.
“A lot of Republicans make statements,” Scarborough said. “There’s a lot of Republicans that suggest they’re very concerned by what’s going on, but it would just take a couple, two Republicans, to say no — this is wrong. A military parade is not democratic.”
He said the rich asshole needs the support of nearly every Republican senator to accomplish anything, which gives them each enough leverage to constrain the president — if they were willing to stand up.
“Go LBJ on them (and say), ‘I’m going to look long and hard before we support this or before we support that,'” Scarborough said. “Or you can talk about the Dreamers. ‘Mr. President, you made a promise and then you slandered the entire continent of Africa.’ We two, we three, who are not running — let’s start with Bob Corker and Jeff Flake. those two men could change the course of the history, they could change Washington. They could stop some rich asshole’s worst ideas, and push back against his most autocratic tendencies.”
MSNBC’s Mike Barnicle issued the same challenge to House Speaker Paul Ryan, but co-host Mika Brzezinski recoiled in disgust.
“Ugh, no — it’s too far gone,” she said, and MSNBC’s John Heilemann said he was a lost cause. “That train has left the station.”
Scarborough expressed his personal disappointment in Ryan, whom he’s known for 25 years.
“I like the guy very much, I really do — I like him very much,” Scarborough said. “I don’t get it, but I don’t get a lot these days, from a lot of other friends and family members.”

‘Pence is pissed’: Republicans say vice president wants revenge on West Virginia Dem for voting against GOP tax bill

Travis Gettys

Mike Pence pointing
Vice President Mike Pence is seeking revenge against Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) for reneging against the deal he thought they’d reached on tax reform — but the West Virginia Democrat thinks it’s all for show.
The vice president campaigned against Manchin last week in the rich asshole-backing West Virginia, where he attacked Manchin for voting against the Republican tax bill, reported Politico.
Manchin told Pence in August that he could not vote for a GOP plan to repeal the Affordable Act, but he assured the vice president he was committed to working on a bipartisan tax bill.
Administration officials and other Republicans briefed on the conversation say Manchin promised his support, but Manchin says that’s not accurate.
“He looked me in the eye, and I looked him in the eye, and I said, ‘I want to work with you,’” Manchin told Politico. “And that’s a two-way street. That is so disingenuous from our vice president.”
“He’s not upset — he can’t be upset,” Manchin said.
Congressional Republicans say Pence believes Manchin should face political consequences for voting against the tax plan that passed on party lines, and he’ll return to West Virginia in April.
“Pence is pissed,” said one Republican lawmaker. “He should be pissed.”
But senators from both parties are unhappy with the apparent feud, because Pence may need Manchin’s vote in the GOP’s thin 51-49 majority.
“I don’t think it’s wise to alienate people who are willing to work with you,” said Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME).

Defense One's Kevin Baron explains how veterans and active duty military oppose the rich asshole's planned military parade

Baron: "You have a lot of veterans and current active duty folks saying, 'Man, this stinks to have to make us do this, this isn't for us, this is for you'"

Video ››› ››› MEDIA MATTERS STAFF
From the February 7 edition of MSNBC Live with Stephanie Ruhle:

KATY TUR (GUEST HOST): Fourth of July would be interesting. This isn't the first time that we would have a large scale military parade like this in the U.S., Kevin. The last one was in 1991, it cost $12 million. With inflation, it would cost $22 million today. Where does that money come from? Kevin?
KEVIN BARON (DEFENSE ONE EXECUTIVE EDITOR): Gee, good question. I think it depends maybe on the region or the district. Usually these kind of parades are done on bases. It's been so rare. I mean, there is a military district in Washington, D.C. that might pay for it. I'll tell you, the last time I went to a major one of these was in Kuwait for the anniversary of the Gulf War and Kuwait's 50th year of independence. The Americans, the Saudis, every country that participated in the Gulf War went to a large -- what, basically like the beltway outside of Kuwait City to put this on.
These are not small affairs. Military units have to drill for them, they have to train for them, and it takes them out of doing their jobs, their real drill. So Twitter has just blown up in the military community. You have a lot of veterans and current active duty folks saying, "Man, this stinks to have to make us do this, this isn't for us, this is for you." But some others say, "Hey, I love parades, it's something we do, we'll do it if we have to. But it's not exactly what's our number one priority right now."

Fox reporter: the rich asshole's military parade "would be an absolute blast"

Kevin Corke: "I'm sure we would have the show right down here. Can I just put in a call for that? Fox & Friends live on the Mall"

Video ››› ››› MEDIA MATTERS STAFF
From the February 7 edition of Fox News' Fox & Friends:

AINSLEY EARHARDT (CO-HOST): Patriotism might soon hit the streets of Washington in full force. Plans for a military parade are now in the works.
STEVE DOOCY (CO-HOST): The latest call to honor our heroes coming from the president himself.
BRIAN KILMEADE (CO-HOST): Kevin Corke joins us right now from the White House. Kevin, I guess you will be covering the parade if it happens.
KEVIN CORKE (WHITE HOUSE CORRESPONDENT): Yeah, let me tell you, guys, this is going to be a blast. Let me ask you a question. Do you ever see something that was really cool, I mean, something you said, "I'd love to do something like that or see something like that again?" Well, apparently, that is what happened to the president after he saw the Bastille Day celebration in Paris back in July. He saw that and, after that, he called it one of the greatest military parade he had ever seen and now he'd like to see the U.S. hold a similar parade on Pennsylvania Avenue right here in Washington. By the way, Fox News has confirmed he has, in fact, asked the Pentagon to work up a plan.
Now, let me show you what Sarah Huckabee Sanders has to say about it. She said, "Look, the president is incredibly supportive of America's great service members who risk their lives every day to keep our country safe. He's asked the Department of Defense to explore a celebration, at which all Americans," that's me you and everybody, "can show their appreciation."
Now, asked about that idea of a the rich asshole parade, Gen. Joe Dunford said, "Yep, I'm aware of the president's request, and we are in the initial stages of planning." I've got to tell you, that looks like it would be an absolute blast and, ideally, it would happen on the 4th of July weekend. I'd love to see it. I'm sure we would have the show right down here. Can I just put in a call for that? Fox & Friends live on the [National] Mall if it happens.

HANNITY: Sara, I mean, that's the irony of all of this, and the media betrayed the American people, a huge part of this story. They never had any facts, they hyped it up, they breathlessly reported false information day after day, night after night.

Fox host says that the rich asshole should take credit for the good of the stock market, but not the bad

Varney’s praise of the "the rich asshole stock market rally" conveniently ignores steady growth of the Dow under Obama

Fox Business host Stuart Varney said that President some rich asshole “was right to tout" stock market growth that has taken place since his inauguration as one of his achievements, claiming that "it was his policies which created" the rally. However, Varney dismissed the February 5 Dow Jones 1,175 point drop as an overdue market “correct[ion],” saying that "presidents shouldn't stick into that kind of sell-off on a day-to-day basis" and advising the rich asshole to "steer clear of that, please." Varney’s comments continue a pattern of showering the rich asshole with praise for a strong economy and stock market or defending his economic policies, while ignoring the six-plus years of steady economic growth under the previous president, Barack Obama, whose economic policies Varney frequently criticized.
Varney’s exhortations of “the rich asshole stock market rally” are misleading, as they fail to acknowledge that the growth continues the more than six years of steady stock market growth under Obama. From March 6, 2009, to November 7, 2016, the Dow Jones climbed about 11,632 points -- almost a 157 percent increase.
Even though Obama’s economic record directly contributed to the so-called “the rich asshole rally” Varney praises, Varney frequently and bizarrely attacked Obama on the economy. True to what he himself has called his “very clearly partisan” nature, Varney even credited President George W. Bush for “fix[ing] the financial panic” when the 2007 Great Recession started and said “the economy fell off” on “Obama’s watch.” Varney also claimed that GDP figures in April 2017 meant a “bounce back” was on the horizon, but  that similar numbers in April 2016 meant we were “sliding toward recession.”
From the February 6 edition of Fox News’ Fox & Friends:

STUART VARNEY: It was a big sell-off, but let me tell you this right from the get go. A) the sky is not falling. B) there is no economic catastrophe on the horizon. C) the left is spinning this because they really want to associate President the rich asshole with anything negative. D) did you hear that bit about “Oh, your retirement savings have been erased.” Nonsense. Your retirement savings are still up about one-third since the election of some rich asshole.
AINSLEY EARHARDT (CO-HOST): So this takes us back to December numbers. Still --
VARNEY: Yes, we’ve lost the gains of 2018. So that’s gone.
EARHARDT: But still better than the last administration, right?
VARNEY: But you’ve still got all the gains of 2017 very much in place. Look, there are two reasons why we got this big sell-off on our hands. Number one, we were due. The market has gone straight up ever since the election of some rich asshole.
BRIAN KILMEADE (CO-HOST): Not natural.
VARNEY: Nothing goes up, straight up forever. All markets correct, period. You’ve gone from 18,00 to 26,000. OK, so now you’ve corrected at 24,000. That's what's happened. B) the economy is doing extremely well. And when the economy does well, interest rates tend to rise. Rising interest rates are not good news for the stock market. Hence, this sell-off yesterday. And you’ll get more selling at the opening bell today. It’s going to be an up and down day. Extreme anxiety today. How it closes, I don't know, but it probably will open lower.
KILMEADE: So the fundamentals of the economy are sound.
VARNEY: Yes.
KILMEADE: But do you think the president will from now on will have a different approach to when the stock market goes up again, to maybe not get behind it? Because presidents in the past have stayed away from the market because of its volatility.
VARNEY: I think the president was right to tout the the rich asshole stock market rally, because it was his policies which created the the rich asshole stock market rally. I don't think he should say anything about this current sell-off. Presidents shouldn't stick into that kind of sell-off on a day-to-day basis. Steer clear of that, please, Mr. President. But by all means, take credit for the rally that you’ve seen so far.
